Executive Summary
Starbuck is the largest and most successful coffee chains in the world. Its customer base has reached over 33 million people and still counting. The original owners of the company before Howard Schultz were Jeffrey Baldwin (English teacher), Zev Siegel (History teacher), and Gordan Bowke( writer) all from Seattle Washington. The first store opened in 1971 at Pikes Peak Market in Seattle. The company name at that time was called Starbuck’s Coffee, Tea and Spice. The company name “Starbuck” was taken from the book “Moby Dick written by Herman Melville. The store was not a place where customers could come in to sit, relax and drink their coffee. Instead, the coffee store was for customers to purchase the finest roasted coffee beans, teas, spices and drip coffee makers you could ever buy in the world. The owners professionally mastered roasting coffee beans to ensure their customers were getting the best coffee around. As of today, Starbuck has over 40,000 stores throughout the United States and operates in over 52 countries. Although Starbuck has had its share of problems, competition is relatively on a small scale compared to other industries. McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts has developed coffee products close in similarity to Starbuck’s but still it didn’t t hurt the company revenues or made a difference in their profits. Starbuck continued to be very successful in spite of the economic recession our country is currently experiencing. The Starbuck Corporation is worth over 4 billion dollars. The company continues striving for excellence bringing fresh new ideas and inventions to make their products more enjoyable, healthy while promoting to succeed every customers expectations by their mission statement: To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time....
