The different assessment methods that are available are diagnostic, formative, summative, ipsative and norm-referenced.
Within the NVQ assessors awards I would utilise diagnostic, formative and summative assessment methods. Initial assessment, diagnostic, is important in relation to determining the competencies an individual may already have, this will ensure that the individual is being taught at the correct level. The way I would achieve an initial assessment is by following the relevant guidelines set by myself and / or by the organisation. This would be by standardising an assessment profile form. I would also, in the early stages of the course use open discussions to ascertain the areas or industries in which individuals will be using their assessment qualification.
Formative assessment allows both myself and the learner to ensure understanding of the various processes involved within the award and also allows the learner to develop and improve their knowledge as the course progresses. These assessments would take the form of either observation in a practical activity, question and answer sessions, assignments, product evidence from prior learning and reports from colleagues, all leading to an accumulation of the required units and forming a final portfolio of work. At the end of each session the learner is issued the paperwork to complete an element within the required unit. This paperwork is handed in at the following session and learner progress documented.
Summative assessment ensures that all the aims and requirements of the course have been met. Within the assessor awards this means that all evidence presented is valid, authentic, reliable, current and sufficient. The section /...
