The Little Girl
The wedding night arrived, and it was the biggest wedding ever. The wedding was beautiful. It was a dream come true medieval theme wedding. Everyone was really enjoying the ceremony. Benny and Martha got remarried in an old medieval looking church and had their photos taken there with a 'feast' as well. It was medieval style with no forks or spoons. One plate and a knife was all the guests had with a superb buffet finished off with fresh fruit and nutty wedding cake! There were lots and lots of bouquets filled with wildflowers. A wooden wishing well was set in the corner of the reception room to collect cards from wedding guests.
Before the night was over family and friends, who had come to show their respect and share their joy, were allowed to make a few statements to the new bride and groom. They stood in front of the wishing well straining to get to the microphone. Benny sat there radiating a new sense of belonging and love and self-confidence, but after a few moments he could begin to see a real vitality in Melissa’s eyes. Benny noticed his daughter was anxious to say something. He was equally anxious to hear what she had to say. As the guest began to speak, Benny went into a daze and began to reminisce about his relationship with his daughter.
Benny met Melissa when she was two yrs old. She had very, very dark hair and a little pink dress on. Benny was a single man, with dark black hair, and a muscular body from playing tennis and lifting weights. Little did he realize that this little girl was going to change his life.
Benny and Melissa’s mom had been friends for a while. Eventually that friendship grew into care, from care into love, to marriage, and marriage brought the three of them together as a family. When Benny married Martha, he became an instant father to Melissa. He'd never been a parent before. At first it was awkward because in the back of his mind, he thought he would be stuck with the dreaded label...
