Stereotyped Into One Group Due to Language

Hispanic American Diversity Jason Harris Axia College of University of Phoenix The groups of Mexican American I have chosen are Mexican Americans, Cubans, Dominican Americans, and South Americans. All of these groups are from different regions but are stereotyped into one group due to the language. Spanish is the common language spoke between these groups. Mexican American population is the largest minority group in America. Mexican Americans come from all over Mexico resulting in a wide variety of languages. Mexican American typically speaks Spanish. Most Mexican Americas have attempted to maintain their distinctive cultural ways. However, the general pattern has been that with each successive generation the use of the mother tongue and other cultural practices diminishes. MAPA is composed of members of Hispanic/Latino Heritage and it is the body that represents the Mexican Americans. Although the majority of members are Democrats as it is the case with most Hispanics in the United States. In the United States, Mexican Americans make up a large percentage of the population, illegal as well as legal immigrants from Mexico in addition to Mexican Americans combined often make up a large majority of workers in many blue-collar occupations the majority of the employed men are restaurant workers, janitors, truck drivers, gardeners, construction laborers, material moving workers, or perform other types of manual or other blue collar labor. Many women also work in low wage service and retail occupations. In many of these places with large Latino populations, many types of blue-collar workers are often assumed to be Mexican American or Latino immigrants. Mexican-American people are majority Catholics, but their interpretations of Catholic principles often vary. Traditionally, the entire family would unite on most religious holidays, baptisms, communions, weddings and confirmations.
