The book “Striking Back” is a book about one of the most gruesome days in the history of Israel and Palestine. It is a story about the 1972 Munich Olympics, what happened there what happened after it and the status of Palestine and Israel. It started in 1972 when a group of Palestineis called Black September came up with an idea to get back at Israel for taking many of their man and putting them in Israeli jails. To get back at Israel they planned to take their Olympians hostage in and demand the release of all prisoners. So this was their plan and they were so confident with their plan that they sent small letters with vague clues to the Israeli special forces unit known as the Mossad.
Israel had seven athletes in the B wing of the Olympic Hotel in downtown Munich Germany. They were spread out from apartment 1 to apartment 5. In apartment one was the coaches and judges apartment 2 was the marksmen, the fencers, and the track and field athletes. In apartment 3 was the weightlifters and wrestlers apartment for was for the doctors and apartment 5 was for Shmuel Llakin the head of security for the Israeli athletes because they of what happened in the 1968 Mexican Olympics. They were all being watched by Israeli sharp shooters and had double lock doors for extra protection.
After the fifth day of the Olympics had finished it neared 6 o’clock and so the Israeli athletes went out into Germany to celebrate their wins and forget their loses. The bus came back around nine and the gates locked up shortly after. However some American athletes had not made it back so they were at the fence when Black September pulled up they told the American athletes they were Palestinei track and field runners so with American help they hoped the fence and proceeded to wing B of the hotel.
