widespread telecommunications infrastructure. This infrastructure is utilized to serve a wide range of applications
including telephone services or data transmitting through a computer network. Structured cabling installations
usually include horizontal and vertical backbone pathways, entrance facilities, horizontal and vertical backbone
cables, equipment rooms, work area outlets, and cross-connect facilities among others. The entrance facility deals
with the cabling components which are required to connect the premises cabling to the outside service facilities.
This can include connecting hardware, cables, service entrance pathways, transition hardware and circuit protection
devices. From the entrance facility, the structured cabling network move out to other buildings present on the
backbone cabling system which provides the handling of cables from the major network traffic. The main
components of backbone cabling includes cable pathways (conduits, shafts, raceways, etc.), actual cables (twistedpair copper, optical fiber, coaxial copper, etc.), and different connecting hardware including various support
facilities.
