Throughout the past nine weeks there has been a great deal learned and studied. All the concepts and techniques were very important to my future as a student, and in my future career. Although the material was basic, it made me see things about myself that were already known, or that was not known about myself. There are many resources available to us as students, so that we may succeed in our studies, and succeed as a person.
Axia’s educational resources are an especially important tool and knowing how to use them is one of the keys to success as a student. The University Library gives students access to millions of articles and reference material. The one thing that separates a library to research from using the internet is the amount of older information in the library. The ability to access certain material without being charged for it is also another perk of using the library. Be sure not to photocopy the material, post it in an online newsgroup, email it to people who are not students or staff of the university, and the material should not be posted on web sites. The “Ask a Librarian” feature is also another useful tool when students are stuck. This feature allows a person to ask a question they might have about their research topic. According to the University Library (2008) they can “obtain professional guidance and recommendations for research”.
When a person uses the many databases that the University Library has to offer, there are a few key things to remember. Indentifying the keywords for the topic is absolutely necessary, and I found that if a person uses an asterisk (*) at the end of certain words, they will get a varying ending for that word. When searching for material there is the option of getting peer-reviewed journals, choosing the databases by subject, finding a specific publication, or requesting a specific document.
