Summary

Dear Sir or Madam, I participated in the Explore class of 2007 and I have never been the same since. It was one of the most life changing experiences I think a youth can go through. I wasn’t one of the first picked students to be in the program, my math marks weren’t entirely up to par and we all weren’t sure if I could handle what was ahead with the fast paced environment explore offers. But I worked hard and proved that I was up for the challenge and would work even harder to succeed throughout the program. Explore is a family, its learning at its finest. Explore allowed me and classmates to break down barriers between each other, to be put in situations outside the school walls and have to make decisions for ourselves, and be smart and think critically. The work load explore has is heavy and fast paced, but you work hard because you know what the outcome will be- an adventure with friends to places you have yet to explore and memories that are going to last life times. You build relationships as well as skills that are never taught in a regular class. You explore yourself, test your personality, and find out your strengths and weaknesses. I was forced into a room of people that before the program started I had probably not spoken to very many of them, we were all different and unique in our own ways, that’swhat I loved about explore, my bubble of friends had burst and I was able explore numerous types of people, with different hobbies, different disabilities, different smarts. We all had something unique to offer the other and learned from each other every step of the way. The reason I call it a family is because everyone is always there to help, I struggled in math and needed help but always knew it was there for me, either from one of my teachers or fellow classmates, people knew my strengths and weaknesses and were more than willing to help me with problems I had or come to me for help with things they were dealing with.
