This report aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the environment and strategies of
Blackmores Limited (hereafter “BKL”). The report presents a detailed SWOT analysis to
evaluate the internal and external environment, an assessment of BKL’s key stakeholders and
an analysis of two of BKL’s key strategic focus areas (developing their core product portfolio
and optimising and growing its channels).
The research covers economic and social trends in the external and internal
environment and provides details of both the Australian and Asian market, which BKL is
expanding into. The research also utilises detailed financial analysis of BKL’s financial
statements including calculation of key financial ratios, such as leverage, interest coverage
and the current ratio.
The findings of the SWOT analysis show that the vitamin, dietary and supplements
(VDS) market which BKL primarily operates in has significant potential for growth and that
BKL possesses the resources and capabilities to continue to be a dominant force in the market.
Our evaluation of the two BKL strategic areas mentioned above concludes that the
strategies are both suitable and feasible for the company and could have beneficial impacts on
most stakeholders if successful. Our implementation proposals for the strategies are to form a
partnership with an existing Asian company in order to grow their channels, and to restructure
their organisation along product lines to assist in developing their core product portfolio.
These proposals have taken into account the impact of the strategies on key stakeholders and
aim to maximise the value of BKL’s main stakeholders.
