Something New

The film something new stars Sanaa Lathan as a successful woman working as an accountant for a firm Los Angeles. Putting her career as her main focus in life, Sanaa’s character Kenya McQueen is often putting her love live on hold. Kenya’s friends often poke fun at her being so boring and not taking a chance exploring, also for letting her strict dating standards being a little bit too much. A friend of Kenya set her up on a blind date, but she didn’t know about the surprise that she was in for. The person that Kenya set up on a date with was a white man. That was an awkward moment for Kenya due to the fact that she pictured her ideal male to be successful male from the same race. Through a few events taking place between Kenya and him and support from her friends she took a liking to him, also accepting that is from a different ethnicity and makes nowhere close to what she is making.
The movie has numerous moments that show a deep symbolic to relationships with the Kenya and the people in her life. A perfect example can be how Kenya was dressed an her style changed throughout her relationship with Brian her boyfriend, and her friends took notice to change. Kenya put her work first always in suits and business attire most of the time. All of suits and clothing was in dull colors in the beginning part of the movie. Then once her relationship with Brian progressing and blossoming, you seem to notice a change in her style of dressing. Kenya began to wear more vibrant colors and straying away the dull beige’s and dark blues that she was accustomed to wearing. Showing how she is becoming more willing to try new things.
Another example of a symbolic of her is the transformation of Kenya’s backyard from the beginning of the film to the end. The backyard of Kenya’s new house needed a lot of work. The scenery of it just wasn’t a pleasant one, after Kenya began...
