Team Communication
Communication and teamwork are the major structures for building a successful team. Whether the team has face to face meetings or are in a virtual format, if there is no or poor communication within the team this can lead to conflicts, cause the delay of team projects, and could contribute to the derailing of the teams goals. It is important that the team focus on having an open communication system which could help eliminate any early issues. There are various methods that can help promote good communication skills and teamwork in a team setting. The team environment should promote an open forum to allow all individuals to participate and feel comfortable in an open dialogue. In doing so, the stage is set for open communication which allows all of the individuals to share their thoughts and make sound, informative, and meaningful contributions to the all assignments and projects. For individuals working in teams, this task can be a difficult and in some cases almost impossible. There should be set boundaries, assigned tasks, clearly defined roles, and processes. This will allow the members of the team to feel like the group is open to their ideas and creative input for assignments and projects. Many challenges can plague a team and will affect their ability to develop into a strong successful team and will decrease their chances of meeting and sometimes setting goals and plans. Conflict in teams can sometimes be either a positive or a negative. (Hoyt, 2000, p. 18) Both of these types of conflict will require some sort of attention from the team members. The outcome of both will solely depend on the actions or reactions of the team members. In order to ensure success, the team members will need to carefully assess the situation and develop a solution as a team.
