Interview with my Grandmother on technology that impacted in her times My grandmother Maria was born on July 26, 1947. She was born in a small city in Mexico. She recalls a lot of instances in her life that have impacted her in various ways. So then I asked what was the most new and important things that were invented in her times and she told me that as far back as she can remember it would have to be the retro telephone. The retro telephone is the phone that has a little spinney thing in the middle. She says she was really amazed that it had an answering machine. She was about maybe no more than 6 or 7 years old when they finally received one since her family didn’t have a lot of money back in Mexico. Mexico was not as technologically advanced as the United States of America. She remembers getting in trouble for using the phone when she had no idea at all how to use it. She says that when she became a little older she finally learned how to use the phone and she was really excited because she was one of the only ones in her little town that had one. She recalls people would come over to her house to use their phone and call their family in other places. Another thing she recalls is the television set. She was pretty amazed at it, she had never seen anything like that and when her family finally received one, they were actually the first to have one. The reason that they usually were the first were because her father owned a ranch and they sold farm animals, even though they were still poor with the little money they received and saved up they could finally afford some of these things. She also recalls the microwave being a huge invention! The concept of making something from cold to hot was amazing, especially where she lived when it was the winter time the temperature would fall to almost zero!
