Teens speaking amongst themselves and adults, speaking in a career environment are two very different styles of language. Some people think it is okay to use slang everyday know matter where they are or who they are around. Teens speak a certain way for a reason, as well as adult. When one tries to use the others form of speaking they may get a weird look especially an adult trying to talk like a teenager. It makes and adult seem uneducated and it makes a teen look like and outcast.
Most teens like to use slang words in order to fit in with the crowd, they believe if they don’t speak like their friends they may become an outcast. Teen speak is something that everyone has experienced whether it has been themselves speaking that way, or someone they have been around. It’s not that teens are incapable of using a broad vocabulary, they just simply choose not to. This is because if teens speak the way adults speak in a career environment others may look at them funny so they choose to dumb down their vocabulary to seem cool. Saying things like “waz up” sounds so much better to teens rather than “how are you doing.” Teen speak is a phase that hopefully all teens grow out of when they become an adult, because using slang when in a career environment is definitely not a good look and most likely it will not be accepted.
When becoming an adult using teen slang is not looked at in a positive way. Adults are expected to talk professionally or use some form of jargon while at work. Adults may use certain words when speaking to kids but when they are around other adults or in a career environment they should speak in a more educated fashion. They must say things like “how may I assist you today” verses something like “whats up you need something?” If adults walked around speaking the way teenagers do it would make their work place seem very unprofessional and “ghetto.”
