Nick Naylor, who is a lobbyist for the Tobacco Industry, is informed by his son Joey Naylor that he has received an assignment from his teacher to write an essay on why America has the best government in the world. This reinforces the stereotypes in our American culture because the teacher didn’t give the option to express why America doesn’t have the best government, but she only gave the option to write why we have the best government in the world. This shows that the stereotype that America has the best government in the world is prevalent in this film. Furthermore in the American Culture there is the stereotype that reporters will do anything to get the big story. This is also portrayed in the film by an attractive reporter named Heather Halloway, who wants to get the inside story about Nick Naylor. “Also caught in the mess is a dangerously attractive reporter who will do anything to get the big scoop on Nick Naylor” (Novak). In order to get the scoop on Nick Naylor, Heather Halloway seduces Nick in order to get information out of him. This case strengthens that there is a stereotype that reporters will do anything to get the big story even being sexual. There is also a scene in the film when Nick Naylor exits his car and numerous reporters rush him like a pack of hyenas in order to get information about controversy that has been following him. This is also more backing that there is a perpetual stereotype that reporters do anything for the big story. Continuing with the stereotypes of the American culture, in the film the stereotype that people in Hollywood are arrogant and fake is shown.
