The 1960's V.S. Today

The 1960s were far out compared to what we are living in now. The sixties were a time of cultural explosion and the start of a rebellious movement. Now, we are in a depression; brainwashing our youth with mindless media. The sixties were a time of freedom and flourishing expansion, now we seem to be stuck in a rut we can't get out of. Although the times seem obviously very different, the times do have their similarities. Both of these times are times of war and hopes to push society to be more green. The sixties were a great time of awakening compared to this depression we are stuck in now.
The 1960s were controlled by hippies, who marched and protested to form the shape of a new youth. This youth was made up of beatniks, acid heads, grass smokers, crazies, artists, poets, and musicians, all of which were very radical. The marches of the sixties were brought out by this youth. It was a time of liberation which was shaped by its culture. The art and music scene was flourishing in the 1960s with its influence from the hippies. They were the culture that helped shaped the nation. The Beatles were known as the greatest rock band ever and influenced much of the youth to turn of their minds, relax, and float downstream. The sixties were the decade of many musical festivals, such as Woodstock. It was a time before the DEA. Peace demonstrations took place on the streets of every major city, which grew to become quite violent. This decades rebellious youth has certainly shaped the way of the world to come.
The early 2000s have proven to be a technological awakening with the birth of cyberspace. The old fashioned hippie has certainly faded away. Now in our society we have the hipsters, who display themselves over the internet on such websites as Facebook. Most interaction takes place through cyberspace, whether it be texting or web-based.
