WHAT ARE THE SIX SENSITIVE PERIODS ?
Sensitive periods are the fundamental stages of development which a child will pass through from the age of birth (0) to around 6 or 7 years old. If each stage is passed within the correct environment and allowed to be learnt with freedom and support are invaluable for the skills of a human in later life.
A sensitive period is like a room full of exciting and interesting challenges which will each hold the child’s interest at certain times and will hold the attention until the skill has been thoroughly learnt , if not gained at these specific times it can be very difficult almost impossible to regain again in later life .
The concept was first established by the Dutch scientist Hugo De Vries, who studied the theory in animals, Maria Montessori later observed the approach within children .
Both Hugo De Vries and Montessori believe of the basic and simple rule that nature gives us a natural guide which is within each and every organism on earth to nurture and act upon main skills we need to live a fulfilled life.
Although I am going to go to write about 6 of the sensitive periods, Maria Montessori claims there are 11.

2. Refinement of senses
3. Language
4. Walking
5. Small objects
6. Social aspects to life

THE PERIOD OF SENSITIVITY TO ORDER
From the first year to the second of a child’s life and even ongoing sometimes until the age of five, the sensitive period of order is passed, order of the external surroundings and order of how they work and fit in within relation to each other in the world. This then gives order to the inner order of a child.
