The Amber Spyglass, an American bestseller by Philip Pullman, is the third and final book in the exciting His Dark Material trilogy. In this thrilling book Will, the holder of the subtle knife, goes off to find Lyra, a normal girl from a parallel universe, after she mysteriously disappeared in book II. Will goes off in the company of two angels, Balthamos and Baruch. Lyra is in a cave with Mrs.Coulter in a very deep sleep. She is dreaming that she is in the land of the dead talking to her dead childhood friend Roger. Will is not the only person looking for Lyra. The Authority is looking for her so they can kill her and Lord Asriel is looking for her so she can help him overthrow the Authority. Will Will find Lyra first? Will Lord Asriel finally overthrow the Authority? These questions are answered in this thrilling action-packed book.
I think this book is fantastic and everyone should read it. It won the 2001 Whitbread award, making it the first children’s book to ever get one. This fantasy is easy to read even though it’s pretty thick. The Amber Spyglass takes place in multiple different worlds and in all four seasons. Lyra originally left her home, Oxford, to escape the children eating “Gobblers”, and Will left his home town to find his father. It is filled with sensational adventures that will keep you on your toes. Philip Pullman has an excellent way of putting you in the character’s shoes. All in all you should read this book even if you don’t like fantasy, cause trust me, after you read this book you’ll be begging for more!
