Many of us are so tied up with our day to day life that we forget to enjoy our little life. Most of the time it is not very expensive or very big possessions that gives us happiness. What gives me contentment is something that expresses my creative abilities and that is where I found a good hobby helpful. I have had too many hobbies in the past. At one time I was an addict of computer games and my hobbies included reading, travel, blogging, collecting stamps etc. Too many hobbies meant I was getting overwhelmed by it! It was becoming a "hobby overload" and I was increasingly stressed on my inability to take up all of them! When I decided to embrace simple living, I decided to trim my hobbies as well. I work as a software architect and that means I spend most of my life behind a desk. I don’t get enough exercise and is increasingly causing heath problems. So I wanted to find a hobby which gives me exercise and at the same time provides an outlet for my creative ability. The best hobby I could find was gardening and landscaping! There is a small piece of land in front of my house and I decided to convert it to a garden with landscaping. I decided to pursue my hobby with minimum amount of money and that meant doing everything on my own. I planted a small mango tree in the middle which in a years time will produce delicious mangoes! It will also in future provide the much needed shade in the garden. I bought cheap and local flower plants (less that 30 cents per plant) and planted them after mentally designing my garden layout. So nowadays I spend about 30 to 40 minutes everyday in garden improving and landscaping it. It gives me the much needed exercise, it gives me creative satisfaction and best of all there is very little expense involved. My daughter is 2 years old and she loves helping me out in the garden work. My daughter loves to do her bit of creative work in the garden and I am amazed at her energy. I think a good hobby is needed for a balanced life....
