{draw:g} Introduction: In the article from Forbes entitled “Can Anti-Corruption Policies Do Without Corporate Ethics?” the author argues that corruption is a problem in large, multi-national companies, and that its roots derive from a code of ethics, or a lack there of. First, the author, Susan Rose-Ackerman argues that not only is corruption a moral issue, but it also is in contrast with the ideologies and mindsets of a capitalist, free-market economy '' corruption creates inefficiencies and discourages competition. In addition, corruption hurts the consumer because information about products, services, and industries (what is available and how much of it is) make it harder to make right decisions on purchasing products and services. The article iterates the point that most see large corporations in a different light and hold them to lesser standards than a human being, which she sees as an absurd observation. The article is based upon the idea that they should be held to equal if not higher standards than an individual, and how a code of ethics will help to minimize corruption in a corporation. Discussion: Ethics is defined as a “standard of moral behavior…that is accepted by society as right versus wrong.” In other words, ethics is doing the right thing. Many companies have adopted a code of ethics, whether it be verbal/implied or in writing. Larger corporations tend to have a written code of ethics. In addition, it tends to be the larger companies which are multinational and do dealings internationally. The question is, however, whether or not the same ethical standards apply abroad, and how to enforce these ethical standards. The article begins by offering the following: that corruption amongst multinational countriesis widespread, and it asks the question of whether or not having a corporate code of ethics would aid in the minimizing of corruption amongst multinational corporations.
