In 1916 canadian troops were seeing action throughout the western front,(wich stretched from north belgium to the rhine river in the east). Canadians at this time had earned a reputation
for being agressive in battle. The battle of vimy ridge is know today as one of the greatest battles in canadian history and was considered a turning point in world war one. At this point vimy ridge was controlled by german forces and was heavily fortified by 3 layers of trenches, barbed wire, and numerious tunnels, France had attempted a takeover of vimy ridge but resulted in 150,00 french causualties. This was the first battle where all four canadian divisions fought on the same feild, these canadian soldiers were led into battle by general sir. Arthur Currie who was the first canadian appointed commander of the canadian corps. The takover of vimy ridge was a huge succes thanks to general Arthur Currie's battle tactics to have all the four divisions charge for one point instead of spliting up.



The battle of hong kong - December 1941.

On 8 December 1941, The day after japanese air forces had devastated pearl harbor the Japanese Empire declared war on the Britsh Colony of Hong Kong. The first Canadian ground units to see action in the Second World War were the Royal Rifles of Canada and the Winnipeg Grenadiers who fought glorieously to defend the british colony. at first the Grenadiers were shipped to the Gin Drinkers’ Line, wich was a chain of defenses on the Chinese Mainland to defend against the assault of soldiers. Although air raids and artillery attacks forced the Commonwealth troops to withdraw from the mainland to their garrison on the island of Hong Kong. After many days of severe bombardment the Japanese deployed soldiers to the island’s northern beaches on the night of 18 December.
