Where’s the Beef?
From scares like the “pink slime” to the controversies over Taco Bell’s so called “meat,” people have started wondering what their fast-food is really made of and whether it is considered genuine beef, chicken, or pork products. Looking at a wide range of details from the FDA regulations, to unnatural contaminants in meat products compared to those of other countries with fast food- type restaurants, it will be determined whether Americans should worry about what they are eating from these places or if it isn’t as bad as the media has made it seem. First, what are the FDA regulations on what is an acceptable meat produced and distributed in fast-food restaurants, and how does this compare to regulations seen (or not seen) in other countries where fast food is prevalent? We will also look at what pesticides, hormones, or other harmful materials could be found in these meats. Finally we will look in depth on the recent publicized scandals about these chains, which ones may have truth behind them, and which are just scare-tactics. For comparison, we will look at what other stories about these products have been formulated around the world.
