There are many different types of mental disorders one of the most popular is autism. There are many misconceptions of autism some people state it’s an epidemic, which is not the case it’s just quickly being diagnosed. Another is that mothers lack care during their pregnancy. As well as the notion that people with autism are all alike. All these false myths, stereotype autism and what it really is. Autism is a complex developmental disability and ranges in severity. It is a neurological disorder that affects brain function and the development of one’s communication and social skills. Autism is a mental disorder that cannot go away by surgery or medication. It is a life altering disease that affects one’s life at an early stage. It can somewhat be subdued by medication and through therapy. It appears to have its roots in very early brain development. However the most obvious sign of autism and symptoms of autism tend to emerge between 6 months to 3 years of age depending on the type of autism one has. A characteristic of autism is one engages in repetitive activities or obsessive thoughts and interests. People with autism have difficulty with social interaction and have a problem communicating back with others. Autism also can affect memory, sensory perception and movement because it prevent different parts of the brain working together and achieve complex tasks. This paper will discuss how autism affects the brain, the most common and different types of autism, and lastly different types of autistic treatments.
Autism affects many parts of the brain. The specific part of the brain that autism impacts, is the limbic system. The limbic system manages ones emotions, emotional responses and memory. The limbic system is made out of the hippocampus, hypothalamus, cingulated gyrus, amygdale, and thalamus.
