“I should hate this movie with every ounce of my being (and that's a lot of ounces). Yet, it has a certain charm that draws you in like the girl next door, when she has her hair up in a ponytail and smiles at you like you're George Clooney, Robert Pattinson and Zac Efron all rolled into one.” (Waffle, Willie) Even critics, who know they should disparage such a formulated film, can’t resist the appeal of the movie The Blind Side. This is a heartwarming movie that strongly promotes family values and traditions. The Blind Side was a sleeper film that became a huge box office hit and a nominee for the Best Picture Academy Award. The film paints a story based on the real life of a wealthy Southern family which helps a homeless African-American teen. This boy eventually becomes a legal member of their family, as well as a college football star and player in the NFL.
The matriarch of the family, Leigh Anne Tuohy, is skillfully portrayed by Sandra Bullock. Leigh Anne is a Type A interior decorator for affluent clients. She is a Christian woman who is always taking on multiple charitable projects. She is an Ole Miss alumna and an avid football fan. Leigh Anne is a go-getter who lets nothing stand in her way. She appears to be afraid of nothing, but as the movie develops her tender caring side starts to show through. Bullock skillfully depicts Leigh Anne’s hell on heels attitude. For her performance, Bullock won an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. She also won the Screen Actors Guild Award for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.
