Macbeth Coursework In this essay I will be commenting on the changing character of Lady Macbeth, during the play Macbeth. I will be comparing Shakespeare’s portrayal of lady Macbeth in two different scenes of the play. When Lady Macbeth is first introduced in the play she is already plotting King Duncan’s murder. This shows that she wants Macbeth to be king more than he actually does. Macbeth is reluctant to follow her plan as Duncan has spoken very highly of Macbeth and given him the title of thane of Cawdor. Lady Macbeth doesn’t care about Macbeths feelings about King Duncan and still pursues on persuading him to kill him. This gives you the impression that she is selfish and only wants him to become king for her own good. When Macbeth finally agrees to kill the king and does so, Lady Macbeth changes and breaks down. She can’t deal with the stress and finally commits suicide. I will now describe how Lady Macbeth is portrayed in act 1 scene 7. Macbeth says he can’t go on with the plan to kill him. Lady Macbeth is very ruthless and doesn’t take is no as an answer. In reply she calls him a coward. “Live a coward in thine own esteem, Letting I dare not wait upon I would, like the poor cat I’ th’ adage?” Macbeth then tells Lady Macbeth to stop and a real man would not do this. Lady Macbeth then attacks his masculinity. She then tells him that if he killed him he would be much more of a man. She is trying to make him prove to her that he is a real man. He then...
