The Modern Day Gangster
Tony Soprano is a modern day gangster in the TV show The Sopranos. At first glance, he seems like your normal father, husband, and neighbor but as you begin to look closer you start to see patterns toward violent behavior and illegal activity. He has the same problems as most of us and visits a shrink to talk about the issues surrounding him. But do not be fooled by his outwardly appearance, Tony is one of the most feared and respected people in Jersey for a reason.
Tony Soprano looks like your typical mobster. He is an Italian American, a little heavyset, and is an alpha male personality. The mob began in Italy and was bought over when families moved to America. Tony's father was a mobster and Tony followed in his father's footsteps. As the show progresses you learn more of Tony's feelings about his father being in the mob and how the money was earned in the family. Tony has a son of his own and he does not want his son to follow in his footsteps. Tony tries to provide everything for his son and daughter to give them the options they need to not follow him. Near the end of the show, Tony gets his son a job in the movie business to help his son, who was beginning to start down the path Tony didn't want. When he is with his family, Tony seems like your normal father and husband and he does not discuss business around them out of respect for them.
He has an alpha male personality which can lead him towards overly aggressive actions. Tony, as the boss of the family, is shown the up most respect from anyone in his presence but not always respected after that. There is a hit put on Tony early on in the show. As these two people try to kill Tony, he sees them and begins to fight them off. He fights them both off and ends up killing one of them. This event is upsetting to Tony's uncle, who put out the hit on him, because Tony lived through the hit and he will seek revenge on whoever put the hit out on him. Tony's temper...
