When we hear about the Anglo Saxons period, we think of fierce, strong, manly, and savages warriors, never giving up and fighting until death. One of those was Beowulf an epic hero, that slay evil creatures. Just like the Anglo Saxons, Beowulf showed to be a fierce warrior, the story telling and gathering around the mead hall, and the loyalty to king Hrothgar.
In the Epic, Beowulf showed the characteristic of the Anglo Saxons, in competitive and being a fierce warrior. He talks about unferth and him how they race in the sea and “Brecca could not out swim me, nor could I out distances him. And thus we were, for five nights. It was cold weather and the waves surged, driving us apart, and the north wind came like a battler in the night.” this shows how tough Beowulf was. Also in another part of the epic Beowulf shows courage by fighting grendel with no help from others. But “Beowulf grasped his arm and sat up. The criminal knew he had no met in this middle earth another with such a grip” and the grendel try to escape but Beowulf was to strong.
As most of Anglo Saxons they always had a mead hall whether they talk, celebrate, tell stories or just to gather around. “So Hrothgar decided he would build a mead hall, the greatest the world had ever seen, or even imagined.” and so it was named Herot. But that wasn’t all they did in herot. After they built herot Hrothgar “did what he said he would: handed out gold and treasure at huge feast” and so they did an celebrated
The loyalty to the king was very important just as the loyalty to the Anglo Saxons leaders was. Beowulf shows many respect to king Hrothgar and him to his men. At the beginning of the story when Beowulf gets introduced to the king Hrothgar recognizes his dad , also that he is a strong as thirty men and that “in bravery seeking a loyal friend.”
