Jobs that look like they’re having a party everyday may actually be overrated. For many job applicants, they’re occupation of choice usually comes from what they see from outside. It can be that it seems fun and interesting or the other workers look happy so they want to feel joyful while working, too. Although, what they don’t know is that there can be many complex details going into different jobs. Many people don’t see behind the scenes of how cruel a company can be towards their employees. Even though, most company descriptions are quick to boast about how friendly its environment is, the extreme professionalism, or how they strive to work as a together as a team or family. Almost every profession has a dark side and everyone should be aware.

Many retail companies are a good example of false advertisement. At Forever 21, a very successful retail store, it was surprising to hear what many of the employees said about their employer. Jane, a sales associate, commented about how unreasonable the management can be. Apparently, managers play favorites with certain employees. Those who kiss up and act as a teachers pet get higher on the pyramid, while those who avoid bad situations and work hard get the shorter end of the stick. She has worked there for three years and was promised a raise every six months, which would equal to six raises but she only received two. The other four raises were denied purely because, according to Jane, the district manager didn’t like her personality. This is just a point of view, which also depends on how the variety of different employees and personalities work.

Some people can be very high maintenance and want things a certain way, some can be cynical and hate their job and others can be very calm with a go-with-the-flow type of attitude.
