Computer technology has created a revolutionary change in the way we lead our lives. This may explain why computer development is regarded as a global phenomenon. While they were created to make tasks and connect people easier, it is argued by some that our lives are more complicated as a result. It is true that computers are occasionally an impediment but, in general, the benefits they offer cannot be denied.

Some people believe that computers are such indispensable tools for their lives. As one of the greatest inventions of human kind, the computer has become an intelligent device in every aspect of life: Medicine, Business, Art, Engineering, etc. Moreover, with the Internet, it connects people everywhere despite long distances apart. People can send emails, see each other by Webcam, buy products or do business online. The most important reason in favor of the computer is that it helps people access huge sources of information and keeps them updated (or up to date) with the latest occurrences in the world. Thanks to it, people can easily broaden their knowledge in all fields, which is helpful for studying and working.

Others are of the opinion that computers are more of a hindrance than a help in today’s world, due to social and in individual’s problems. Obviously, as computers do a lot of tasks more efficiently than humans, this may lead to a high unemployment rate in many countries. If this occurs, unemployment subsidies will be a financial burden to the Government. Another argument put forward is that, frequent and prolonged computer sessions may cause physical health problems such as visual strain, posture and skeletal problems. More concerning, bad websites which contain obscene and violent or sexual content may lead to people’s curiosity. Last but not least, this may affect family’s happiness and bring about alienation among family members as they have their eyes fixed to the computer’s screen for hours instead of talking to each other.
