Before you answer this question if Napoleon was a good leader, there are many things you have to understand and ask yourself. You have to understand the emergence of Napoleon Bonaparte. He emerged through the chaos of the French Revolution. The French were poor, poverty was on the rise, there was no social and health facility. There was no law & order.
Now you have to look at the effectiveness of Napoleon. He joined the French arm as a foot soldier. Which back then was like the lowest rank in the military. He quickly moved up to top. He then became emperor of France. With no experience at all, he managed to united France.
Not only that he solved the issue of law & order situation, provided more health facilities for a country that had nearly none. Now with France at his back, he challenged foreign powers to stop interfering in France. He virtually destroyed the intelligence network of Russia, Germany, and England(UK). His slogan when he was in power was one man, one goal, one country, one people. Though he made many mistakes but still, his slogan of French nationalism is still alive. If it wasn’t for Napoleon we probably would have had different small countries from the soil of France.
The question of whether or not Napoleon was an effective leader or not is debatable. There are many qualities that leaders posses that make them great. It does appear that Bonaparte had many of these qualities. Vision is an important quality in a leader; it is what leads the leader and sparks the fire for those that follow the leader. Napoleon definitely had vision. He was always trying to expand his empire and conquer more land. He had a vision for France and put much effort into acquiring that vision. Napoleon fought on the front lines.
He took many risks in his military attacks. Later, some of these proved to be futile as in his defeats against Russia and at Waterloo. Another quality is commitment. Napoleon had an endless amount of commitment to France....
