Central Idea: Diabetes is a serious medical condition that affects many people.

Introduction: Tonight I am going to explain diabetes, the three main types, and options for treatment.

Preview Statement: In explaining diabetes, I will cover three types: type 1, type 2, gestational, and some treatments.

I. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease.
A. Insulin Production
1. 10% of cases are type 1
2. Recognized in children as well as adults
B. Causes of
1. Loss of insulin producing beta cells
2. Control with injections
3. Coma or ketoacidosis, even death

II. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes.
A. Bodies inability to use insulin
1. 90% of patients have this type
2. Adults over 45 usually along with children
B. Insulin Resistance
1. Central obesity
2. Control with weight loss, diet and exercise
3. Insulin therapy

III. Gestational diabetes in second half of pregnancy.
A. After Delivery
1. It just goes away
2. Higher tendency for type 2
B. Larger Babies
1. Hormones coupled with shortage of insulin
2. May not exhibit symptoms

Conclusion: In conclusion, we have discussed the fact that diabetes is a serious medical condition that affects many people. We covered type 1 diabetes, type 2diabetes, and gestational diabetes. All of these can be regulated with healthy eating, maintaining proper body weight, healthy lifestyles, which include not smoking or overindulging in alcohol, as well as monitoring your health and its symptoms.
