Many Technological advances have impacted our country in the past century, let alone the past decade that have had tremendous effects on how Americans live their lives today. The computer, internet and e-commerce are practically a way of life in our society today. In most homes many additional appliances are used from the time people get up in the morning to the time they go to bed at night and even while sleeping, alarm clocks continue to count the minutes until they can alarm us out of a deep sleep to start the process all over again. Yet even though each of these major conveniences have a large effect on life in modern day America, none of these would be possible without the discovery of and ability to create and distribute electricity.
Throughout the night, the electric clock radio silently counts off the seconds until 5:00 when it lets out an alarming sound loud enough to wake the dead. Thus starts a new day. Turn on the lights; plug in the curling iron, and hot rollers. Plug in the clothes iron. Start the electric coffee pot and turn on the news to see what happened throughout the night. Go online quick to check any electronic mail (e-mail) messages are in the inbox. Go out to the garage and push the button for the electric garage door to open and set the alarm system before leaving the house.
Driving to work numerous traffic lights determine who has the right of way, who stops and who goes. Driving into the parking lot card is waved in front of a small box that electronically reads the card and automatically opens the gate allowing vehicles to enter. Walking up to the building, the automatic door opens as it senses motion. Motion sensors even turn on the lights when entering the office. Turn on the computer and work begins.
