The Experience I went to Community Service

What kind of experience can be a memory that you will remember the rest of your life? To me, the experience that I went to community service in my home town, Chutong.
In the summer of 2009 I went to a place which wo live there have children’s thought, it’s Shi-Guang. All the people in there have cerebral palsy, just depends on very serious or not. Some that had it really serious, could not eat by themselves, can’t talk, can’t walk or even go to the bathroom by themselves. The ones that had lesser symptoms could do easy work such as learning how to wash clothes with a washing machine, or help others to fill the lunch. The people in Shi-Guang have children’t thought, they even look like a child. Some people were in their twenties, but they doesn’t grow as they got older. They still look like elementary children or even kindergarten children.
A well-know Chinese saying says that “Helping is the basic element of happiness.” I totally agree with this statement. As my brother and I volunteered as helpers in Shi-Guang, we helped the children to complete their rehabilitation training skills. We also fed them, helped them to brush their teeth, took them for walks, and lead them to exercise. Helping them and seeing them mak slow progress, I felt happy for them from the depth of my heart.
After getting along with those children, I know that they can understand a little of what we are trying to express to them. Once I said to a girl “Come, give me a hug.” She nodded her head and slowly stretched out her hand to hug me! At that moment, I felt so happy and touched because that meant that she perceive me as a close person to her and not a stranger. It also meant that she could understand me. That’s big progress for them.
