John Kessler Professor Brosh EN-101-30 School Essay Students all together fear failure and they fear getting bad grades, its common in nature to feel this way. Professionals believe that this can be solved by getting rid of grades all together. It is believed that abolishing grades would help the students obtain knowledge better and would overcome the fear of getting that letter grade. Students since they first start school have a goal to get that grade of an A, they don’t even think about gaining knowledge for future reference. By abolishing grades that problem is solved because students are too focused on that grade that once they receive it they forget about all the lessons learned. I personally think that grades need to be in place; if they weren’t then students would stop working hard and not even show up to class. This would cause even more problems then there are now in school systems. Throughout the time spent at a college, students pick a major in which they pursue and study in. Colleges require courses that seem unbearable to students and unnecessary with the major they choose. This idea creates problems and demoralizes students on behalf of the undergraduates wanting to jump right into their studies in the field that interests them most. As Bird mentions in her essay, “Most college administrators admit they don’t prepare their graduates for the job market.” I believe that this could be solved by eliminating those pesky required courses and that would leave the student to jump right into the field of work. These required courses should have been taken in high school and there would be much more of a reason to attend college. Not just because college is the thing to do and everyone else is doing it. Freire comes along explaining and talking about a type of method in education. One method is based off of the teacher being the center of attention, almost like a dictator.
