CASE #7 The Forgotten Group Member
1) I feel that right from the beginning in the forming stage there were issues with Mike and a possibility would have been to come up with a meeting time that worked for everyone so that it would be concrete. Mike's interpersonal skills were lacking and I don't believe Christine made enough effort to accomplish the team goals because of Mike's lack of effort with his contributions to the team. The normingstage did not show a positive balance in the group. Although Sandra told the group to address problems and deal with them, Mike felt left out and this should have been dealt with when he walked away from the cafeteria. It was obvious that Mike lacked maturity.
2) Mike was not working well with the group and was not pulling his weight with his contributions to the group and I felt Christine could have made Mike more accountable by defining her expectations as team leader. Give him more direction. Not everyone is capable of leaving their problems at home and Christine should not have been as passive as she was with Mike's personal issues.
3) I don't feel Christine was a good group leader because Mike did not follow thru and handed only some hand written notes. If she knew Mike was creative then she should have spent more time with him and made more of an effort to bring balance to the group. I also feel that Christine as a group leader could have discussed with the team the issues and possible solutions.
