The Gin Game

The Gin Game is a two-person tragicomedy that takes place in an old folks home. This play explores the lives of a man and a woman during their stay at an old folks home as well as the growth, conflict, and destruction of their friendship with a great help from the game of gin. The production had many themes such as a power struggle between man and women, wasted opportunities and most of all baggage from ones past. The Gin Game gives a true meaning to the classification of a tragicomedy.
I found the acting to be very normal and natural throughout the entire production. For if there were ever a time where the actors missed a line or messed up, I would bet to say the audience and myself did not have the slightest clue. The characters had good interactions and or reactions with each other, such has when Weller was counting and Fonsia would be talking she would cover her mouth not to talk as he was counting aloud not to lose tract. Then after he was finished she would carry on with the conversation right where it left off. The interactions were as simple as a man giving a woman his coat when it was cold outside to protect and comfort her from the cold. While watching Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy on stage I found myself absorbed in their world constantly wondering what sarcastic comment Weller would make the next time Fonsia bet him in Gin once more.

Over all I really enjoyed watching the production of The Gin Game, I was glad our class had the privilege to view the film live. I fee like it adds a feeling of pressure or intensity to the actors, with them wanting to give the best performance possible. The scene changes were very smooth and well thought out by the film producers, giving the watchers a date and time of where the next scene would take place, sort of like a program would do at a live performance. I did think that the play took a little time to get going so to speak or for the plot to arise, although I did not find myself to be...
