During the early 1930’s the United States economy experienced the biggest financial crisis the country has ever seen. The Great Depression influenced the change of the federal governments role regarding business and other aspects of society based on the social and economic strains of the time period.

The Great Depression, which can be defined as a severe economic decline, was one of the most financially difficult times in modern day history. The depression was mainly the repercussions of credit and overproduction. In an attempt to climb out of the economic crisis Herbert Hoover proposed ideas such as cutting taxes, building public projects, and the establishment of the Federal Farm Board. These ideas, however, began to fail and could no longer keep Hoover in office. In the election of 1932 democratic candidate Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to the presidency. With his first inaugural address he made his intentions clear, that he would step out of the norm and adapt to the trying times by using the government to help revive the failing economy. The establishment of the CCC and the AAA are some of the products of the New Deal set up in order to help relieve the economic crisis.(document C)

The Great Depression forced the United States to adapt based on the needs of the country fragile economic state. To help resolve the crisis and return the economy to normalcy Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed the “ New Deal.” As stated in Document B, the united states congress allowed Roosevelt to procede with many of the aspects of the New Deal based on the ideas of relief recovery and reform. Many of these propositions, which may have been viewed unconstitutional had there not been a economic emergency, were permitted with the common goal of strengthening the economy. Many believed, however, that the low rejection rate of the proposed ideas would lead to an eventual monarchy or dictatorship.
