Abstract

The popularity and distribution of drugs is assessed critically with the involvement of adolescents in mind. Differences in the consequences of adults and children are distinctly analyzed and compared as well as the jail and prison systems. Various forms of punishment are discussed, and the pros and cons of capital punishment are examined as well. The society that ultimately exists inside prisons is explored. The author uses real life situations as examples, as well as various forms of sources.

America is enviously seen by many other countries as the place where dreams can come true, and the pursuit of happiness abounds. To them, the United States is a haven of freedom, protection, and non-violence. However, there are a few living in America that know that sometimes, the American Dream doesn’t always have pleasant connotations. For the past few decades, illegal drugs have made their way across the borders of America; while their popularity, and the income for those who illegally distribute them is great, the consequences of attaining those substances aren’t. Illegal drugs have resulted in their abuse by many, violence, deaths, and the incarceration of many.
As far back as the 1960’s, the use of drugs began to become popular in American society. What began at first as a way for the people to protest and express themselves, resulted in the banning of several substances in the United States by the federal government. In more recent years, the main threat and the most popular drug is cocaine (also called crack or coke). Psychologically addictive, users of this drug pay vast sums of money for even a small amount of the substance in any of its forms.
