The High Cost of Cheap Labor

Did you know that almost one in every 10 residents is foreign born? Did you also know that every year thousands of illegal immigrants are entering our country causing major negative impacts on our economy but this number is rising into the millions as the years pass? Just a few of the harmful effects that result from illegal immigrants entering our country include financial burdens and obligations and the rising of unemployment rate of US citizens. Do we truly want to allow this to go on within the country that we and our ancestors fairly claimed and have fought so hard to keep?

The largest and worst outcome that this country has experienced as a result of illegal immigration is the financial issues that we face. Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Texas are currently obtaining 75% of the immigrants that enter our country. These states are being forced to furnish millions, possibly billions, of dollars for costs associated with healthcare, welfare, and incarceration. In figure one, you will see just how much money the state of Arizona had to give up in just 365 days. Please keep in mind that after spending approximately $810,000,000 dollars toward education, the state still ranks last of the 50 states when it comes to quality of education. The cost for unreimbursed healthcare alone for the state of California was $1.4 billion dollars in 2004. After immigrants slip past our supposedly secure borders, they settle into our country with most having intentions of raising their families here. Being the kind people that Americans are, we passed a law that allowed immigrants to become eligible for government assisted health insurance, despite the fact that they are here illegally. With the rising cost of health insurance, this is becoming a very expensive obligation for our government, and us Americans.
