The Hobbit: Synopsis
The Hobbit, a novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien, is a very
interesting and mind blowing novel. From it’s wide variety of
races, such as goblins, dwarves, humans, elves, hobbits, and
even a dragon, to it’s huge world full of much reality and
adventurous places. The world that The Hobbit takes place in is
called Middle Earth. The incredible thing about the novel is that
Tolkien created all of the mythology and geography in it. Even
the languages were his idea, based on the many ancient
languages he had known.
In The Hobbit, there were many different types of people.
The hobbit people, who mostly were laid back, and for the most
part very kind. They were also very tiny in height at about half
the size of the humans. Although laid back, some of the hobbits
such as Bilbo Baggins, liked the idea of going on mysterious
adventures but never really did.
Another amusing race was the dwarves. The dwarves were
loud, abnoxious little men but had strong hearts. They always
liked a good battle and loved treasures. The dwarves in The
Hobbit were lead by Thorin, the grandson of King Thror, the king
of the dwarves. Thorin and his men were in search of assistance
to get back the treasure in which the dragon Smaug had taken
from Thror and his people, and to take over the mines once
again.
Two of the more powerful kinds of people were the humans
and the elves. Both in abundance of men and trained archers and
swordsmen. The elves are split into two types, the Wood Elves,
and the High Elves. The Wood Elves reside in place called
Mirkwood and tend to not have as much respect and are not as
wise as the High Elves. The High Elves lived in a city called
Rivendell, a peaceful place where there is little danger. Lord
Elrond is in charge of the elves and becomes quite good friends
with Bilbo and his companions. The main human in the novel is
