The Jean Purse

It was a sad June day, as I wiped the last of my tears away from my face. “This was supposed to be my day” I said to myself, lying in my bedroom. “why did I get punished for this?”
I would wait anxiously for weeks for my birthday to come. June 20th is the day I looked forward to every year. I mean what child doesn’t love their birthday? It shows that you are slowly becoming a grown up, and grown ups have all the fun. Family getting together, birthday cakes, and presents what could be better?

I was turning seven this year, and we planned to have my grandmother over for dinner and cake. I waited all day for six o-clock to come. Finally I hear, “Hello Grandmas here!” I run down the stairs to say hi and to give her a big hug! When I get to the front door I can see this huge wrapped box in her arms. I was so excited, I just wanted to open it right then and there.

All through dinner I just kept looking up at my gifts on the counter. My older sister said that she will save the present from her, to be opened last. We all sat at the dinner table visiting for another hour or so. Then we moved into the living room where it was a little more comfortable. At this point my grandmother turned to me and said, “Tanya go get your presents, and you can open them in here.” She didn’t have to tell me twice. I ran out of that room as if there was a fire. When I came back you couldn’t see my face past the gifts. I started out by opening the gift from my parents. It was this full plastic tea set with a tea pot, cups, saucers, a table cloth, and more. “Open mine next,” my grandmother told me. So I got the large box and started to unwrap it. Finally after five minutes of unwrapping I see sitting before me a beautiful, plastic, life like, doll. She had a bottle, and clothes that you could use to dress her up in.

With all the excitement of my new toys I almost forgot about my sisters present. It was a smaller box, I just couldn’t figure out was in the small...
