Essay II: The Joys of Moving Into Your First Apartment

Until the latter years of my teenage life, I have not yet been able to experience the joys of living alone, until recently. I decided to brave the world at the young age of eighteen and acquire my own living arrangements, other than my parents. Living with roommates is a common and sensible way for most young people to get started on their own. Having roommates has both its ups and downs as far as being able to afford the luxury of moving out of your parent’s home. Although the idea of having your own space and making your own rules, you must also enter into the equation, the headaches of having a roommate. One of my cons to living with a roommate is that time that I needed for myself, was always shortened by the presence of others or existed next to nothing due to the current living arrangements. After many years and many trials and tribulations, I finally decided it was time to live by myself. My opinion of becoming independent is one’s ability to live on their own by owning/renting a home and or apartment along with one’s ability to pay bills and obtain control of their life. Can you really be called independent if you live with other people? Having asked myself these questions and reviewing the good and the bad of both having a roommate or the ability to live alone, I decided it was time to reside by myself. I reached my independence at the age of twenty-seven when I moved into my first apartment.

My story starts in November of 2007 when I was residing with a friend in Flowood, Mississippi. My roommate Chris and I were living in a beautiful area in a condo on a lakefront community which lasted for more than three years. The end of this situation was determined by the many issues that my roommate Chris and I could not resolve.
