The Lantern Festival

The Lantern Festival

Today I'm talking about Lantern Festival in Auckland.
As one of Auckland's most popular summer events, the Auckland Lantern Festival brings Chinese New Year celebrations to a glowing finale with hundreds of beautiful lanterns, including brand new designs from China.

Lantern Festival is the fifteenth of January in Chinese calender. Chinese new year lasts until 2th of February in Chinese calender but people has already been to work by that time.
I went to the Lantern Festival at Albert park last Friday

This year is the year of ox in China. At the festival, people hung up red lanterns along the street. In the old times the lanterns used to be made of paper with candle inside to light it up. But we now have changed them into plastic with bulbs to make it safer. They had a stage in the open area over the grass. A lot of Chinese people were giving performances with Chinese characteristic like Chinese opera . And some New Zealand people joined too. There was a long line of market for selling food and things for the festival. People there were selling Chinese food, drinks, lanterns, Chinese dresses and so on. There were not only Chinese people at the festival but also a lot of New Zealanders and some foreign people.
The festival is a good way to Spread cultures. It can help people to get to know about different cultures. And it can also give people a good chance to relax and have fun.
