Marijuana (Cannabis): harmless or harmful? Marijuana is a mixture of shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the hemp plant. Marijuana is the most widely used illegal drug in the America. For years marijuana has been made out to be this horrible drug. Some believe it’s the worst out there, others believe it’s a gate way drug. I want to stop the ignorance and nonsense. Marijuana has many beneficial qualities, and is probably the safest drug today. If marijuana is legalized people as a whole will save, and make money. Therefore I agree with the Bill “Marijuana Legalization”.
Medical benefits to marijuana use have been acknowledged throughout the medical community. The benefits help and treat diseases including: treatment of nausea often associated with cancer chemotherapy treatment; reduction of pressure in the eyes benefiting individuals with glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness in the U.S.; relief of pain often associated with cancer; and possible protection of nerves from the damage caused by multiple sclerosis (MS), which in tern reduces tremors and muscle spasms associated with the disease. It’s scientifically proven, according to John A. Benson a principal investigator and professor of internal medicine at the University of Nebraska, that marijuana helps with pain relief, nausea, and vomiting.
Marijuana is a less harmful to the body then cigarettes and alcohol. Marijuana contain about the same amount of carcinogens of tobacco. However a tobacco smoker consumes much more than a marijuana smoker. This is because smoked tobacco has a 90% addiction rate, while marijuana is less addictive then caffeine. In 1977 published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) showed no evidence of brain damage in heavy users of marijuana. That same year (JAMA) came out in favor of decriminalizing marijuana. This isn’t something one would expect from (JAMA). Some people think that you can die from marijuana overdose....
