Introduction When we examine the language of the military strategy, it is clear that what was intended was to deliberately inflict psychological damage on the population, especially people in its main cities. The effects of war weaponry were to possibly give the effect of a cataclysmic event, possibly even symbolizing the end of the world and emulating the second coming of Christ. Torture, political repression, and armed conflict pose an immense threat to individuals and populations on numerous levels. When the war is targeted toward a whole population, the potential of death or injury of those subjected to such a war is evident. When such threats lead to escape, internal displacement, or asylum seeking in a different country, an additional number of threats are added, including a possible cumulative or synergetic impact on the victim's health, function, and well-being. To ‘shock’ is to deliberately traumatize. It is interesting to observe the relationship between shock and war. To shock, or traumatize, as a deliberate act is an effective way of psychologically disabling a person.
