The Lord’s Supper Essay

Paul had an understanding of the Lord’s Supper as the most crucial elememt, and in
accordance with the traditional understanding of it, but alone with understanding came some
disorder that took place at the table of the Lord at Corinth. The disorder make way for the apostle
to have a reason to provide teaching on the matter of the supper, and now allows us to be forever
in gratitude for. Paul admitted to the existence of the words “Do this is remembrance of me”, and
the fact that the supper was used as a way to honor the sacrifice and death of Jesus, which started
with our Lord God (Barclay1967). When also looking at the Passover, it was also a celebration to
remember how great God was when he delivered all of his people out of Egypt, which brings the
Lord’s supper as a way to continue to remind us how great the act of God was for allowing us to
be delivered from our sins, by offering up his only begotten son Jesus to die for our sins.

As often as you look at the word “remembrance” there seems to be some sort of extent or
magnitude in the word. Looking back at the scripture in 1 Cor. 11 when Christians shared along
with others of the Lord’s supper, Jesus Christ’s death is as clear and as effective just as if we
ourselves sat around the table with him and his disciples in the presence of God. Paul had the
understanding that the Lord’s supper was in fact a way of being proclaimed when it states in 1
Cor 11:26 that “as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death
till He comes”. This is a way of looking back to Jesus death and allows us to look forward to his
