The Loss of Puritan Beliefs

The world has lost many religions and beliefs throughout the span of mankind, whether through genocide, reform, or just being out-dated, religions die and new ones are born. In America and throughout other parts of the world a the Puritan religion has almost disappeared. This is especially true within America itself, because of many different things in society that are left unquestioned, and tolerated that the puritans would not have allowed to survive without protest. To list a few broad things that the puritans would have been against that is a standard in todays society they would be: How lax America's moral fiber has become, America's belief that everyone is free to make their own decisions, and how truly lazy America has become.

The death of puritan beliefs can be seen in looking at many aspects of American society. America's more lax morals is a huge sign of loss in puritanism. Now you see condom commercials on the television, or tv shows where the characters are constantly "bumping uglies" (Turk, "Scrubs" the TV Show). Media does not care about the average citizen, they care about their gross revenue for that month, so ainstead of playing nice moral shows for families they release shows such as "Sex in the City". Now parents have the feeling it's hopeless to try and stop the kids from doing it, so instead they just try and make sure they do it with a condom. In health we are taught that the second safest thing behind abstinence is condoms, because they have given up hope on actually stopping children from having sex they hiope to at least make them safe doing it. Also, because of the decline in puritan beliefs, people have come to understand and, if not respect, tolerate other religions, and even atheism.

Here in America we are told we are free to do and say what we please, because we are free. This is true to an extent, as in society still expects you to do things such as vote, when you have just as much of a right not to vote, yet that right...
