Summer of 2008 was a tragic summer for a group of friends who had enjoyed skateboarding together. Derik had gotten hit and killed by a car while he was skating to the park near by because he couldn't find a ride on June 15th. Everyone was in total shock! Not one single person could belive what had happened to the most fun loving outgoing guy it felt like the summer was ruined; we would all meet at the park everyday and just sit down on our boards in total silence. Remebering all the good times the group had to move forward, but we would never forget such a good friend, we painted a mural on one of the vert ramps that Derik always "shredded" complete in loving memory.
The summer continued on as well as our lives. Skateboarding day in day out, i personally was enjoying every moment i had with the guys especially because i knew i would be moving back to Pennsylvania at the end of the summer. Constant waking up at 8am to go down to the beach and watch the waves crash at my feet then heading straight to skate park to meet up at 10am to have our annual skateboarding sessions. It's now about Mid-July and the tempatures are rising its starting to get way to hot out to be skating using up all of our energy. We all would head to the beach at around noon to swim and play volleyball and just goof around being your typical 19 and 20 year old guys. I always thought to myself the summer started our rough but its starting to begin to be a great summer! Little did i know what was going to happen next.
July 25th is here and it was a random boring hot summer night. Everyone decided we should try and sneak into the After Deck (a night club for 21+) so we did and surpisingly got in without being asked for I.D we had the time of our lives doing something completely diffrent and out of the blue and actually got away with it!
