Observations made through media influence people in different ways. Themes differ with the time of year or events happening in society. Effects of the media on society can be viewed as positive or negative, depending on the individual. There is not one sole purpose for media; it has many different purposes with one inherent theme. For one to understand the impact of media on society, one must first understand what media entails. Media, as a whole, has had an impact on society since the beginning of civilization. Many societies have had forms of medium, such as cave murals, since recorded history began. Media refers to different types of mass communication. There are numerous genres of medium available this day in age. From the newspaper and the radio to the television and the internet, media has evolved to fit society’s needs, progressing as technology progresses. Each genre has different types of media associated with that genre. Television, for example, has news broadcasts, reality shows, commercials, and documentaries. Therefore, media is a way to express an idea or ideas to a large group of people. There are many different purposes for media, but there is one main goal. The main goal of media is to communicate an idea to a wide audience.
