It is hard to imagine that anyone living in modern society does not know what battering is. Popular books, movies, and television programs have depicted violent relationships between intimates for many years. Rarely, does one open a newspaper or watch local new without hearing of tragic incidents in which a spouse or lover has been injured, or even killed. Even though, women are in “love” with these men: escaping from her abuser, reclaiming her dignity, reconstructing her life, and discovering her peace are extremely important to a person’s well being.
In today’s society of women it can be complicated trying to escape from there abuser, they’re trying to escape for the stack of their children lives, their families lives, or their own lives. This can be complicated for women, because there are so many ways to escape there from abuser. They can call the police and have him arrested, leave and go to a distant relatives’ house, or the worst way of all be taken out of this world. According, to “Intimate” violence Against Women, “Every year, at least 1.8 million women in the United States are beaten by their intimate partners.” (Lundberg-Love) Like Tynesha Stewart, Clara Riddles, and LaToya Pendergrass who where all victims that were taken out this world. According to Essence Magazine “Each was featured in news reports as a victim of domestic violence, killed reportedly by men who were supposed to love them.” (Wilson) These three young women escaped from there abuser but, not with their lives. When it come to women escaping these abusers for their children, for most of these women, which can be the most difficult of all. According to When Love Turns Violent “An estimated 3 to 10 million children witness such violence each year… Children are just as frightened hearing their mother screams as they are of seeing the abuse.” (Betancourt) It is difficult to get their children out if the abuser wants to take the child away from them or isn’t going to pay child support....
