Freedom is the most precious gift one has in life. In reality, one always has the liberty she o he wanted? And a most important, women have the same freedom than men? Also, marriage can be a repression for the liberty of one person involve, but specially for women. This idea is represent in two of the lecture I read this semester in my composition class.
The first selection in which the topic is presented is “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin. In this selection the lady, Mrs. Mallard, is presented like the victim of the story or like she is so fragile. It is represented where it said, “Knowing Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken…“(119). In contrast, she did not died when her sister let her know about the death of her husband as it is in the lecture where it said “She did not hear the story as many women have heard the same” (119). It was because she was a wife repressed by her husband and society. The repression of her husband is not presented through the story, but it may be deducted by the reaction she has after she received the awful news. At first, she cried but then she went to her room and analyzed that know her situation without her husband will be better. The world is now offering her a new opportunity to be happy. Like it illustrated, “There stood, facing the open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair”(119). All these only represent how happy Mrs. Mallard was with the death of Mr. Mallard. She felt her freedom again, just like she was before marring. It is shown where it said, “Free! Body and soul free! She kept whispering” (120). The freedom to take all the decision she wanted to take, the freedom to started new projects in her life, and the freedom to be alone without the responsibility to be with a person she did not love at all. Her dreams died just like her died when she saw her husband open the door.
Finally, the second selection where the topic is presented again is “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte...
